Laborers' Local 413 hosted a ceremony celebrating Kwanzaa on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the union hall in Chester, Pa.
James Harper, Jr. called the event, an opportunity to engage with our friends and neighbors and celebrate what they contribute to this community.
Various community leaders spoke about the winter celebration, which begins Dec. 26 and runs until New Year's Day. Kwanzaa was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga to celebrate African-Americans' cultural heritage.
Mr Harper agrees with the notion that while we may celebrate with different songs or foods or traditions, we’re all human beings who cherish the same values, it is in that spirit our local hosts this celebration today.
